A Few Things

A Few Things to mention

First off, I have been very neglectful with my blog for the past couple months.  Not because I am no longer interested in healthy food and lifestyle options, but because I was in my first trimester of pregnancy.  I also have to admit that while I have been trying to eat healthy and excercise, I really have not been doing much of either.  Its been a rough couple of months filled with nausea and lack of energy.  Now that I have entered my second trimester, I have regained my energy and have been able to take control of what I put in my mouth and I even hit the gym a few times a week.

Besides eating carbs, carbs, and more carbs, one of my cravings have been grapefruit.  I have always known that grapefruit is extremely healthy but I decided to look into why its healthy and is it a healthy food to eat while pregnant?

Grapefruit is satiated with Vitamin C.  Just one half of a grapefruit provides you with 78 percent of the recommended daily value of vitamin C.  It is an excellent source of antioxidants which supports your immune system and reduces risks of death from heart disease, cancer, and stroke.  It helps your body fight infection and is essential for tissue repair, bone growth and repair, and healthy skin.  Both mom and baby need Vitamin C daily.  It is necessary for the your body to make collagen which is a component of cartilage, tendons, bones, and skin.  Eating a Grapefruit daily is a great way for pregnant women to get in their daily dose of Vitamin C

Many researchers have also linked Grapefruit to weight loss.   It has a reputation of being a fat fighter food.  Researchers have  found that eating half a grapefruit before a meal can actually help you drop weight.  Any way you look at it, Grapefruit is a great addition to your diet.

On a totally different note, I just want to suggest a new healthy snack that i was introduced to the other day.  It is called Light Wheat Snacks made by the company Fiber Gourmet.  They are delicious crackers that i find to really hit the spot when im craving something salty.  The whole pack is 75 calories and it contains 12 grams of fiber.  Before i leave the house in the morning i throw a pack in my bag should i crave any chip-like snacks during the day.  You can order them on http://www.fibergourmet.com.  I will be posting healthy snacks that i come across on twitter, you can follow me @laurenallaham
